Nice Job, Pirates


Seriously... nice job.

Assuming Tampa can win 17 of their last 53 games to finish above .500, the Pirates would be the only team to not break even a single season since the divisions expanded in 1994.

In a potentially dead trade market, Pittsburgh was one of the few teams with trade chips that people wanted. A solid outfielder like Xavier Nady... a reliever with October experience like Damaso Marte and an All Star caliber hitter like Jason Bay.

And they dealt them all... and didn't get a single top flight prospect for any of them.
Mediocre prospects all, including the Red Sox's Craig Hansen who as it turned out was NOT the effective reliever I thought he was becoming.

So you are a mediocre team who makes trades to ensure you REMAIN a mediocre team.
Great work!
