YES!
Griffey is in a pennant race!
Remember Ken Griffey Jr? The guy who was the best player in baseball during the 1990s?
The guy who made people wonder if he would pass Maris and Aaron?
The guy whose name hasn't even been whispered in a drug scandal?
Well the guy playing in Cincinnati every year since 2000 is actually the same guy!
And more than a year since I begged the Reds to trade him, he is a White Sox and on a first place team.
He hasn't been on a winning team since the 2000 Reds, who finished 10 games behind St. Louis and weren't in contention from August on.
He hasn't played meaningful games in September since his MVP season of 1997, when the Mariners lost to the Orioles in the Division Series.
Does he have another burst of October magic in him?
Will he be able to have a crowning October moment for his Cooperstown resume... a la Paul Molitor with the 1993 Blue Jays?
I hope so... and if the Red Sox don't win the AL Pennant, I'll be rooting for the White Sox if for no other reason than to see the greatest player I have EVER seen get one more crack at the big stage.
What?
He left today's game with an injury?
Oh crap.
